Hiking & Biking

A paradise for hikers! The tours you can do range from easy strolls (up or down the valley along the river, to the chapel across on the hill above the village, etc.) to medium (up to the Galmihorn hut just to the north from the chalet, trips to the other side of the southern rim, ideally over night in Italy), to challenging paths across rocks and ice – a fantastic and exciting trip is across the Aletsch Glacier, the biggest glacier in Western Europe, to Grindelwald in the Berner Oberland – this tour should be done with a local guide and special equipment is needed.  In winter, lovely winter hiking paths are prepared across the white plains.

The area offers fantastic tours for biking as well! The range is wide and you’ll find anything tailored to your means and needs, from easy paths along the valley to challenging and steep rocky rides up and down the mountains.

Cross-Country & Skiing

The valley changes to a magic and brilliant white world in winter – a beautiful hideaway not only for skiers.  90km of cross-country slopes (laid out for classic or Nordic skating) are accessible, just approx 200m down from Chalet des Amis.  There are also plenty of opportunities for skiers and snowboarders with smaller, easier slopes in neighboring Gluringen and Münster (each approx 2km), perfect for beginners and occasional relaxed skiers.  The Aletsch Arena (Bettmeralp, Fiescher Alp, Riederalp) with more than 100km of fantastic interconnected slopes, is reachable by train or car (approx 20 to 30mins).  And Zermatt is also within reach with its great slopes with the famous, stunning views of the Matterhorn.

Trips using the Train Network

The train network is fantastic and, since it is Swiss, very reliable.  You can get almost anywhere from there and don't need to use the car.  How about a trip to the music festival in Ernen?  Exploring the wine regions of Valais?  A trip to the food market (Saturdays) of Domodossola through the Simplon tunnel or a day-trip to Milan if you want to go shopping there or visit the museums?

There are plenty more sports to be done, ranging from rafting in the Rhône/Rotten, golf, minigolf, swimming, paragliding, ice-skating, …

Reviews

"We had such a lovely time at the Chalet des Amis. It is comfy and cosy and full of character and charm. The surrounding nature is stunning with many lovely paths to discover. We'll be back."

“Wir fühlten uns sofort tatsächlich zuhause. Außen wie vor Jahrhunderten, bietet das Haus innen jeden Komfort. Der Specksteinofen, ein wahres Museumsstück, alte Balken, wunderschöne Truhen mischen sich mit zeitgenössischer Kunst und allen modernen Annehmlichkeiten. Wir haben diesen Urlaub rundum genossen und träumen noch von blühenden Bergwiesen!“
